This is a group of wall mounted steel and cast glass sculptures. These were created to hang as a group and relate to one another as family members relate to one another. They all stem from the same background but are all very individual. The title "Relatives Relating" hopes to describe this system of a variation on a theme.
The large square piece is the final piece in the installation visually anchoring all of the other individual pieces. This is titled "Where We Come From Where We Go". The format has no beginning and no end. It is a metaphor for the many ways we travel throughout our lifetimes and is the "Patriarch" of this sculptural suite. The steel fragments are antique steel collected from the plains of West Texas oil fields and the demolished New York subway system. This ties them to transportation and the metaphor for travel.
The cast glass in this largest work is extensive and weighs over a ton! Not an easy installation for the engineers, architects and owners of this work. I want to thank them again for their patience and freedom while I created this work.
The photographs are an attempt to convey the size and magnitude of this series. The largest piece is 5 foot by five foot and the smaller pieces are 2 foot by 3 feet tall.
