Oh Happy Days: These unique works are composed very formally and are based on simple geometric form. Symmetrical and elegant, they convey to the viewer a sense of serenity and calm. Most of the visual vocabulary is abstracted with the exception of the rare floraform or bird image. Using a rich variety of hand made papers the surfaces are painted, stained and stamped with unique earthy materials. Real rust, iron and aluminum powders, patinas, intense raw pigments and rich dyes comprise the mediums used. When the composition is completed it is sewn together, not glued. Sewing allows the art to fall naturally enabling light to accentuate the dimensionality of the work.

Before Genesis: This new mixed media work on panel is a distillation of the abstract assemblage series "Oh Happy Days". Koury has deconstructed the series into individual panels which work in various compositional arragnements. Using oil based enamels, acrylics and other permanent pigments, these works are ready to hang without the use of reflective glass protection.

Florals: Mysterious and complex, Aleah Koury's pastel floral works are based on traditional landscape theory. Foreground, middle ground and background layers of pastel are laid down on a combination of mixed media underpaintings. These rich surfaces are unique to the artist and produce a beautiful foundation for the final drawings. Detailed leaves and flowers become the focal point and punctuate these atmospheric compositions.

Koi: The richness of the surfaces. The bold use of color and the dramatic composition tell the story of Koury's Koi series. These pastel mixed media drawings are a true statement of whimsey and natural observation. This is a series that is inspired by the joyous movement and playful antics of these aquatic creatures.
