One of my favorite series to work on. I started this series while living very close to the ocean on the Monterey Bay Peninsula. I have always planted gardens anywhere I have lived. It connects and grounds me. I have also been reticent to paint anything with such natural beauty but couldn't resist the challenge when I found my gardens shrouded with fog every morning. The colors and shapes were muted and shifting. I was enamored when the first ray of sun or light would highlight a specific flower. This was the inspiration for this series of pastel drawings. I continue these pieces to this day and have developed a process which works on wood panel or paper. I think I drew my first one in 1996 and this series is in continuous demand. Each drawing has its own personality and is an endless example of a variation on a theme.
